有一次，Cat Stevens在书店里看到一本有关于赞美诗的书。这是一本儿童赞美诗，由英国新体诗女诗Eleanor Farjeon（1881～1965）所编撰。他的目光偶然落在其中的一首（也是最受欢迎的一首）：Morning Has Broken上，这使当时正处于灵感枯竭期的他兴奋无比，他发现其中的诗句及观念真的很棒，就当即决定为之铺上和旋，使之成为自己的歌。
Morning Has Broken这首赞美诗写于1931年的一个老盖尔整修的，苏格兰村庄Bunessan。不知道1979年Cat Stevens皈依宗教是否因为它，但肯定脱不了干系。因为这首赞歌是对神的赞美，感恩神带来了黎明，让世界在每一天都得以重生。
